The little-known odyssey of the 77 Italian soldiers who fought in the battle of Stalingrad.
The extraordinary story of the 77 Italian soldiers who fought in the Battle of Stalingrad, the most brutal battle of World War II. Blocked by the advances of the Russian army in November of 1942, the soldiers concealed the reality of the harsh conditions, instead writing their parents, wives, and children that they were well and far from danger. Only when it was obvious that there was no hope for survival did they tell the truth. Almost all of them were killed either fighting, by the harsh conditions on the battlefield or in Russian prison camps. Only two survived to return to Italy.
