Three women belonging to the world of music – Virginia, Olga, and Cecilia – have shared everything, even Giulio, who left one to marry the other. Olga moved to Milan where she became a famous set designer for the Opera, while Cecilia took a backseat to Giulio’s career as an orchestra conductor. Although Giulio marries Cecilia, he continues to see Olga. Past and present flow throughout the novel, as Virginia, the last one standing, discovers secrets in the yellowed pages of Olga’s diary.
