Mary, a Galilean Jew, has her adolescence abruptly ended when a proclamation places a son in her womb. This is a story of a disciple for the Divine and an extraordinary, incomprehensible event told in her own voice.
Through Miriam’s intimate and vibrant voice, Erri De Luca reimagines one of the most universal and sacred stories in Western culture. In the Name of the Mother is not merely a tale of nativity but a celebration of feminine courage, unconditional love, and the power of life finding its way through even the harshest challenges.
With the delicacy of a poet and the strength of an authentic storyteller, De Luca offers us an unforgettable portrait of a mother – not as a saint, but a real woman who carries the weight and light of an eternal destiny. A work that touches the deepest chords of the heart and soul.
