Vito Baiocchi was nine months old when an earthquake killed his parents and destroyed the town of Gibellina. An older Vito now lives with his pet iguana in London, far from the insufferable grandmother who raised him in Milan and now demands he drive her home to Gibellina. On this adventurous road trip south, passing through Florence, Assisi, Naples and Palermo, grandmother and grandson will not only discover how much they love each other; they will realize that life is short and to be savoured, that happiness can be a simple matter, and that love is always just around the corner.
