Erri De Luca’s “Fish don’t close their eyes” to preview at the Rome Film Festival

Audrey Gordon brings Erri De Luca’s acclaimed autobiographical novel to the screen in a powerful blend of documentary and fiction. Set on the island of Ischia, the film revisits the summer when a ten-year-old boy experiences first love, violence and injustice—and takes his first painful steps out of childhood. Fifty years later, De Luca returns to the island, where memory and the present converge.

The film will have its preview at the Rome Film Festival 2026.
