Mimi and her family are new to the small seaside village on the Italian Riviera.  It is the summer of 1975 and she and her friends are about to discover something horrible.

It is the summer of 1975 and thirteen years old Mimi and her family are new to the small seaside village on the Italian Riviera. The French border is so close that when Mimi is sitting on the thick branches of the tree in her backyard, reading and counting the minutes until the most tedious summer is over, she can almost see her French neighbours. It doesn’t take long though before she meets Alfred, the barefoot boy who , introduces her to his friends: Nero, Scatto and Scintilla. The four of them show her the beauty of the Ligurian hills, its fields of dried tomatoes and flowering jasmine. They spend carefree days that feel like pure freedom, and she can’t help thinking that the future is one of infinite possibility. In their company, she is happy. But just when everything seems too perfect to be true, Mimi and Alfred discover a trail along the coast that hides a horrific secret that is bigger than anything they have or will ever know. They must decide whether to keep for themselves or to share it with their parents and neighbours who watch on without ever truly seeing. The courage of their choices marks the end of childhood, and the start of a future that will take them higher than the day.
