Packing with Purpose

This book is my way of making sure my bag contains and reflects who I am and who I truly want to be. I hope it will help others too. 

Close your eyes and ask yourself what is in your bag. Do you need it all? Does it contain old and useless objects that are weighing you down? In my case, I realized that I wasn’t getting organized because I was afraid that beneath all the junk, I might discover my shortcomings, my fears, and my basic inadequacies. I was always rushing around, weighed down by handbags or suitcases. It took me years to realize that I was literally carrying my ‘baggage’ on my shoulders.  

We often ignore that travelling is a learning experience and life metaphor because we are too busy folding shirts and squeezing shoes into the side pockets of a tattered bag, deciding which version of our ideal selves to be during those days away from home. We never consider how we will return, or what will happen along the way. We close a suitcase wondering if it contains all we will ever need; but between habit and travelling it represents the intersection between who I am and who I want to be. Packing can reveal profound insecurity; being aware of those projections means packing with purpose.
